ABOUT US

St. Augustine and St. Monica Catholic Church History

Fr. Daniel J. Trapp

We were founded as a new parish in 1989 with people blended from St. Catherine/St. Edward and St. Bernard Parishes. Many of our members belong to families long associated with those parishes.  About half of our current members have joined since the time of our founding, drawn by the Holy Spirit through the warmth of the congregation, the singing of the choir and the beauty of the church.  Our parish family is currently formed from 220 households.  We live in the parish boundaries, in other parts of Detroit as well as in other parts of the metro Detroit area.

Our church is housed in four beautiful buildings which date from the 1920's and which are historically designated both by the State of Michigan and the Federal Government.  The cornerstone of the church was laid in 1919 and it is constructed from brick and limestone in the Renaissance Revival style.  The restoration of the church is a continual work in progress and we are especially grateful to the friends of our parish family who join us in that restoration.
